Georgina is a ceramic artist who makes sculptural vessels using a combination of wheel throwing and hand building techniques. Her work explores the concepts of materiality and form using an experimental layering process to develop surface texture of each piece to complement the form. Her work investigates the chemical reactions and transformation of materials that occur during the ceramic making process. Sea glass, rocks and seeds are embedded in the clay body burning out or melting during the firing. The reaction of these foreign materials within the relatively stable properties of the original clay structure create points of volatility and fragility, texture and imperfection. These surfaces bear the imprint of the elemental reactions that occur during the firing process, giving them a rich depth and unique character and highlighting the organic form.
Each form is inspired by natural elements representing the growth and resilience of organisms in the natural world such as plants, fungi and coral.
